Origami House

The Origami House was the design for a part-time home in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, a barrier island on the Atlantic coast. Since the home was only going to be used seasonally and it was to be located in a hurricane-prone area, the house needed to be able to be secure when the owner was not in town. The idea of completely folding the house up drove the concept of using Origami to develop the form. When open, the home captured summer breezes from the southeast, and it blocked colder winter winds from the northeast and southwest. Furthermore, the form focused on the uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean.
